Sure, traditional art fairs offer opportunities for galleries to expose their artists to a wide audience but there’s something to be said for showing art in a setting that’s intimate, surprising and recalls the way collectors connect with works during their daily lives. Enter SPRING 1883. The boutique art fair, which was established in 2014 by Melbourne gallerists Geoff Newton, Vikki McInnes, Kate Barber and Vasili Kaliman and takes cues from New York’s cult Gramercy Park Art Fair, launched at Melbourne’s Hotel Windsor in 2014 and in Sydney the following year.
