Adam Lee: Votive

There's something elegiac about the paintings of Adam Lee. The artist, who lives and works at the foot of the Macedon Ranges, an hour north of Melbourne, has spent the last decade honing a painterly language that arrives at the shadowy borders of mortality, life cycles, love and faith. Votive, the first major publication made in collaboration with the artist, is a beguiling exploration of Lee's practice and aesthetic sensibilities. The 112-page volume, which spans exhibitions in London, Melbourne and Toronto and features contributions by Dan Rule, Kim Dorland and Jack Willet, explores Lee's lush landscapes and otherworldly oil paintings. It also presents an intimate look at his figures – subjects that occupy that strange, spectral place between the physical and spiritual planes.

Votive is published by Perimeter Editions, distributed by Perimeter Distribution and Idea Books (Europe, Asia, USA) and launches at STATION Melbourne on February 20, 2018. You can find it at Perimeter Books, Melbourne as well as good independent galleries and bookstores.
