Au:
Presented by
Arndt Art Agency

Charles Dickens wrote, “Gold conjures up a mist about a man, more destructive of all his old senses and pulling to his feelings than the fumes of charcoal.” How his words resonate still; gold holds its value above almost every other commodity traded today.

Coinciding with the newly rejigged Melbourne Art Fair, Arndt Art Agency is presenting a group show of leading contemporary artists from across the globe at STATION, Melbourne, on the subject of gold, with all its connotations and metaphorical allusions. Entitled Au, the exhibition is the first part of an exchange with Arndt Art Agency Berlin, which works cross a broad range of curated exhibitions in collaboration with international museums, galleries, private collections and artists. In turn, STATION will exhibit a curated exhibition of gallery artists in Berlin during Gallery Weekend Berlin in May 2019.

Curated by Luisa Bosci (Director of the Michael Buxton Collection) and running from 28 July to 11 August, Au focuses on the materiality of gold, while also exploring its layered associations.

“Gold is strongly connected to ideas of currency, value systems, and wealth, but is also underpinned by notions of alchemy, divinity and avarice,” says Bosci. Au brings together a combination of existing and newly commissioned works by 15 Australian and international artists including Khadim Ali (Australia), Daniel Boyd (Australia), Marina Cruz (Philippines), Mikala Dwyer (Australia), Julian Rosefeldt (Germany), Gareth Sansom (Australia), Nedko Solakov (Bulgaria), Rodel Tapaya (Philippines), Danh Vo (Vietnam), Jorinde Voigt (Germany), Hahan (Indonesia), Jeppe Hein (Denmark), Thomas Hirschhorn (Switzerland), Alicja Kwade (Germany) and Danie Mellor (Australia). Au will be the fourth group exhibition of international contemporary art by international art expert Matthias Arndt in Australia.
