Lars Breuer:
MARS Gallery

A significant 10-metre-high, text-based public artwork by international artist Lars Breuer will be unveiled at MARS Gallery, supported by the City of Stonnington, Victoria in conjunction with the first solo exhibition of the German artist. MARS Director Andy Dinan says the public art component is part of the commercial gallery’s “aim to realise innovative projects extending beyond the commercial gallery model through delivering public artwork and cementing relationships with established international and emerging local artists within the community.”
Similar works in the public space have been executed by Breuer in Essen, Germany; Oak Park, Illinois, USA; Istanbul, Turkey, and in several museums and galleries worldwide. To the Happy Few is Breuer’s first solo exhibition in Australia and the second exhibition he has been a part of in the city of Stonnington. Breuer participated in Infinite Loop in 2016 at Justin Art House Museum.
“My work is based on conceptual references to art history and literature,” says Breuer. “I work with a self-designed grid-like italic typography, the composition of which shifts dynamically between the semantics of the words and the quality of the abstract pattern.” Emerging text-based artist Kenny Pittock will exhibit a solo show in the upstairs gallery during Breuer’s exhibition from March 21 until April 13, 2019 at MARS Gallery, Windsor, Victoria.
