Know my Name:
National Gallery of
Australia, Canberra
In 2020, the National Gallery of Australia will present a vibrant and intergenerational program of exhibitions, displays, commissions, acquisitions, creative collaborations, publications and partnerships with some
of Australia’s leading women identifying artists as part of its Know My Name initiative.
The project plays a key role in rewriting the male-dominated narrative of modern and contemporary Australian art. The major exhibition Know My Name: Australian women artists 1900 to now opens on May 31, 2020 and includes over 150 works by leading women artists including Destiny Deacon, Julie Rrap, Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Tracey Moffatt, Margaret Preston and Gemma Smith.
Also part of Know My Name is the exhibition The Body Electric, which presents photographs and videos by women-identifying artists on the subjects of sex, pleasure and desire. Opening on March 28, 2020, the exhibition includes works by artists including Polly Borland (Australia), Nan Goldin (US), Pixy Liao (China), Fiona Pardington (NZ) and Cindy Sherman (US).
