The Picasso Century
The National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, The Picasso Century, charts the extraordinary career of Pablo Picasso in dialogue with the many artists, poets and intellectuals with whom he interacted throughout the 20th century. Developed exclusively for the NGV by the Centre Pompidou and the Musée National Picasso-Paris, the exhibition features over seventy works by Picasso alongside over one hundred works by more than sixty of his contemporaries – including Guillaume Apollinaire, Georges Braque, Salvador Dalí, Alberto Giacometti, Françoise Gilot, Valentine Hugo, Marie Laurencin, Dora Maar, André Masson, Henri Matisse, Dorothea Tanning and Gertrude Stein – drawn from French national collections as well as the NGV Collection. Complementing the inspiring offerings of The Picasso Century is NGV Friday Nights, this year staging a line-up of live performances, DJ sets, bars and Spanish-inspired dining. A standout is Matt McConnell and Jo Gamvros’ Bar Lourinhã, which has taken over the NGV’s Garden Restaurant for a celebration of Spanish culture and cuisine. NGV Friday Nights offers after-hours programming until October 7, 2022 and The Picasso Century continues at the NGV International until October 9, 2022.
