Jordan Wolfson

The first solo presentation of Jordan Wolfson’s work in Australia – as well as the world premiere of his new NGA-acquired work, Body Sculpture – opens in December 2023. Like his previous animatronic works Female Figure (2014) and Colored Sculpture (2016), Body Sculpture combines sculpture and performance to elicit strong emotional and physical responses in viewers. As an artist working across a range of mediums including sculpture, installation, video, photography, digital animation and performance, Wolfson seeks to reflect the socio-political concerns facing the United States. His provocative works bear witness to the human condition in uncomfortable and unsettling situations, confronting his audiences with the conditions of the contemporary world. Wolfson’s art, as Body Sculpture evidences, inhabits the intersection of art history and technology, with images and motifs derived from a variety of sources, spanning 20th century sculpture, popular culture, mass media and the internet. Body Sculpture, alongside documentation of Female Figure, Colored Sculpture and key NGA Collection works selected by Wolfson, shows from December 9, 2023 to April 28, 2024.
