Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau
The definitive look of late 19th-century Paris finds itself in Sydney this year, with Australia’s most comprehensive showing of art nouveau innovator Alphonse Mucha’s iconic works. Illustrations, jewellery, interior decoration, photographs and more from the Mucha Family Collection, supported by the Mucha Foundation in Prague, reveal the influence of the artist, activist, mystic and philosopher in Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau. Initially finding recognition with posters of Sarah Bernhardt before becoming globally known through advertising and product design, Mucha strove for the democratisation of art and the liberation of his homeland, the modern Czech Republic. This sweeping exhibition also includes an immersive digital experience of Slav Epic (1912–26), his late great painting cycle. Spirit of Art Nouveau continues until September 22, 2024.
