Hiroshi Sugimoto: Time Machine
Based between his birthplace of Tokyo and New York, Hiroshi Sugimoto has built an oeuvre of celebrated contemporary images over half a century. The Museum of Contemporary Art is host to the largest exhibition of his work to date, Time Machine, exploring his belief that photography is uniquely suited for capturing and preserving the passage of time. The survey combines critical works from his major series’, revealing an ongoing investigation into light and empiricism, time and memory, 19th-century photographic practices, the medium’s abilities to document and invent, and Eastern and Western ideologies of metaphysics, perception and consciousness. Time Machine continues until October 27, 2024.
