Grab Life: Women Artists in Chile 1965–1990
Grab Life: Women Artists in Chile 1965–1990, curated by Argentine art historian Andrea Giunta, features over one hundred works from the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes collection and collaborating institutions, showcasing engravings, paintings, drawings, photographs, textiles, performance records and installations. The selected pieces reflect a feminine political consciousness aimed at the social transformation of the country during various Chilean sociopolitical periods, including Eduardo Frei Montalva’s reforms, Salvador Allende’s Popular Unity government, the civil-military dictatorship and the return to democracy. The central emphasis of the exhibition is the authorial role of women artists in imagining the formation of utopias by reconfiguring national and subjective identities and representations of the body, resisting censorship and challenging societal norms. It includes works by artists such as Tatiana Álamos, Roser Bru, Gloria Camiruaga, Paz Errázuriz and Cecilia Vicuña. Grab Life continues until September 29, 2024.
