Surréalisme
Following on from Imagine! 100 Years of International Surrealism at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, Brussels, Surréalisme takes over Centre Pompidou in Paris. From there, the essential core exhibition – reinterpreted based on the context of each venue it travels to – will go to Hamburg and Madrid before finishing its run at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2026. Surréalisme celebrates the centenary of the publication of André Breton’s Manifesto of Surrealism in 1924. The original manuscript is at the centre of the exhibition, the maze-like design radiating out from it. Combining paintings, drawings, films, photographs and literary documents, the exhibition is organised thematically and chronologically, divided into 14 sections evoking significant literary figures inspiring the movement and the poetic principles that structured its imagery. Surréalisme opens on September 4, 2024 and runs until January 13, 2025.
