Lindy Lee

As part of the Know My Name initiative – and complementing the unveiling of her new major public art commission Ouroboros (2024) – Lindy Lee is the subject of a major collection show at the National Gallery of Australia. The exhibition brings together highlights from across Lee’s career along with works on paper and a monumental new installation, Charred forest. Charred forest comprises camphor laurel trees treated with the traditional Japanese preservation technique of Shou Sugi Ban, blackening the logs before Lee pierces them with her ubiquitous scattering of holes. The new work – with its allusions to migration, transformation, hope and cyclical notions of existence – sits aptly alongside other works to reflect a practice concerned with ancestry, spirituality, the environment and the cosmos. Lindy Lee runs from October 25, 2024 to June 1, 2025.
