Marina Abramovic: Transforming Energy
Internationally recognised performance artist Marina Abramovic’s first ever museum exhibition in China takes over three floors of Shanghai’s Modern Art Museum. Inspired by her iconic The Great Wall Walk (1988/2008), the exhibition presents over one thousand images from the performance as well as new artworks created especially for the occasion. Marrying homage with an interactive format that invites audiences to engage directly with her participatory works, Transforming Energy captures Abramovic’s ongoing resonance with China. Also emphasising the artist’s use of crystals in her work – reflective of her interest in healing, spiritualism and Eastern medicine – Transforming Energy evokes the personal at the heart of Abramovic’s durational and performance art methodologies. Transforming Energy runs from October 10, 2024 to February 28, 2025.
