Interlaced: Animation and Textiles
A first in the museum world, this major exhibition is dedicated to the reciprocal relationship between animation and textiles. Considering both moving image works made of textiles and fibre works inspired by animation’s possibilities for visual transformation, Interlaced: Animation and Textiles brings together an international group of contemporary artists across the gallery and cinema spaces of the Len Lye Centre. Experimental filmmakers Len Lye’s innovative animation techniques, influenced by both Pacific tapa design and British textile production, provide the connective tissue that elucidates the ways in which one medium gives shape to the other. Interlaced: Animation and Textiles runs from December 7, 2024 to April 27, 2025.
