Image Economies
The work of 18 artists from across Australia, New Zealand/Aotearoa and the Asia Pacific region explores the correlative relationship between advancing digital technologies and the creation, distribution and reception of images in Image Economies at MUMA. With questions of reproducibility and authenticity never far from the discourse around these technologies – from the advent of photography to AI – the exhibition reappraises the way the hyper-networked reality of the image-obsessed world interacts with and informs the offline world of our contemporary times. Materiality, cultural knowledge, identity and social impact are key themes across a selection of painting, sculpture, photography and video. Image Economies runs from February 8 to April 17, 2025.
