French Impressionism: From the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston

Following a drastically shortened season in 2021 due to the global pandemic, the NGV and Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) partnership French Impressionism returns – restaged and reimagined – as the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces® exhibition for 2025. Including 16 canvases in one gallery by Claude Monet – as well as works by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Edgar Degas, Camille Pissarro, Mary Cassatt, Berthe Morisot and more – French Impressionism highlights the key figures who broke with the state-sponsored Salon to champion a bold new style of painting independently. An immersive exhibition design referencing late 19th-century East Coast American and European interiors will bring to life the distinctive brushstrokes and colour, social connections, artistic influences and beloved landscapes of the movement. French Impressionism is on display from June 6 to October 5, 2025.
