Transfer
Textile and fibre arts are uniquely positioned to reinterpret cultural heritage through a contemporary lens, and it is in this spirit that Transfer brings together eight Southeast Asian visual artists working in this space. Across embroidery, stitching, sculptural installations, film, wall-based works, performance, and participatory pieces, the selected artists convey cultural experiences and traditions while elevating deeply personal practices in a medium that is at times still dismissed due to its historically perceived associations with gender norms, sexuality and identity. However, for those very reasons, Transfer facilitates poignant conversations around cultural specificity and community, critical reflections on political, social and historical contexts, and the dissection of power structures. Transfer runs from May 16 to August 3, 2025.
