Louise Bourgeois: In Private View
Marking the artists’ solo debut in Aotearoa, Louise Bourgeois: In Private View reveals an intimacy within Bourgeois’s 6 decades of artistic practice and features a piece created in the final year of her life. This first solo exhibition in Aotearoa demonstrates that Bourgeois’s legacy, which explores themes of relationships, memory, the subconscious, and the body, continues to resonate with audiences worldwide. The exhibition offers a surprisingly intimate experience of Bourgeois’s work, contrasting with her fame for larger-than-life spider sculptures that have captivated many major cities. By displaying this private collection, the Auckland Gallery encourages us to reflect further on how these works inhabit our everyday lives, given that they previously belonged to a family home.
