22 March 2019
As part of the opening week, VAULT co-presented the inaugural Housemuseum Explores Program on Friday 22nd March 6 – 7.30pm.
Housemuseum Explores: Architectural Tour explored the architecture of the new public gallery spaces immediately adjacent to the original Lyon Housemuseum in Kew. Led by architect and founding patron Corbett Lyon, the tour was an insightful look at the design behind the gallery extension and the vision for the new public space.
ENTER: The Inaugural Exhibition
The inaugural exhibition ENTER seeks to contest the neutral ‘white cube’ by commissioning sixteen Australian contemporary artists – five drawn from the existing Lyon Collection and eleven new artists – to create works that explore the way viewers ‘enter’ and engage with art and how these works are encountered in the space of a museum.
Each artist has conceived of their commission as a specific encounter, collaborating closely with the curators to develop their ideas in dialogue with the specificity of the site. Together, the collective works unfold through the new galleries with a clear intent to offer visitors an experience that instigates exchange, conversation, interaction and debate.
ENTER artists include Brook Andrew, Ry David Bradley, FFIXXED STUDIOS X James Deutsher, Shaun Gladwell, Nova Milne, Kate Mitchell, Dan Moynihan, Callum Morton, Baden Pailthorpe, Kenzee Patterson, Patricia Piccinini, Ian Strange, Esther Stewart, Kynan Tan, Min Wong, Constanze Zikos.
